The adoption story of Polly
Share
It all started when I was browsing verhuisdieren.nl, a website dedicated to rehoming rescue dogs. I had signed up and was matched with a dog from Melez Dog Rescue. I reached out to them about a specific dog, but after some discussions, it turned out that this dog wasn't quite the right match for our family. However, there were so many wonderful dogs at the shelter, and we decided to go through a process to find the one that would be the best fit for me and my son, Joes.
The team at Melez Dog Rescue took their time, asking all the right questions and answering mine. They really made sure we were making the right decision. We had video calls, received numerous videos of potential matches, and even had someone visit our home to see if we were truly a good fit for each other. I was impressed by how carefully they approached the adoption process.
Eventually, we were introduced to our lovely Polly (then called Pertunia). She flew over from Turkey to the Netherlands, and when she arrived, she was understandably anxious. Even though she still gets nervous at times, we took it slow and gave her the time and space she needed to settle in. One of the best things was watching how she bonded with, Frenkie, her best friend our neighbours dog (and co-model of Pooch). He helped her navigate the new world around her, showing her how to cross tram tracks and even helping her get comfortable around larger dogs that intimidated her at first.
Polly truly fits perfectly into our family, and we feel so fortunate to have her. She’s come a long way, and every day, we’re reminded of how lucky we are to have found her.
