The Adoption Story
Since living on our own, we’ve always had a dog. When our last dog passed, we knew our next pup would be a rescue. We took our time, researching shelters and organizations from Spain, Portugal, Romania, and Turkey—knowing that each rescue comes with its own story and challenges.
We needed the right match. So, we dove deep into the process, wanting to discuss every question and concern.
Then, in mid-2019, we saw Lola on Melez Dog Rescue’s page (then known as In Safe Hands). She had just been rescued from the streets—sick and with inflamed eyes—but something just clicked. We reached out to Lisanne from Melez, who listened to all our hopes and worries. Her support was invaluable.
Lola's health was fragile, and we weren’t sure how things would go. But we were in love. Lisanne kept us updated with photos and stories, and four months later, we met Lola at Schiphol Airport. Now, she’s been part of our family for over five years!

Favorite Toy:
Soft, small squeaky plushies—if her buddy Berk hasn’t claimed them first. She’s picky, unlike Berk!
Favorite Activity:
Quiet nature adventures. She loves long walks on the beach (her #1), through forests, dunes, and heaths. And every evening, it’s mandatory cuddle time on the couch—she’ll remind you if you forget!
Personality:
Lola’s the introvert of the pack: smart, sensitive, and a bit jumpy around noise and chaos—likely from her days on the streets of Turkey. She’s loyal, tuned into our emotions, and a little protective.
Fun Fact:
Lola’s on her own schedule when it comes to affection. She’ll fetch you for evening cuddles and insists on morning belly rubs before starting her day. If you’re too slow? She’ll let you know! 😊
